Human vision depends on light moving through the cornea, into the pupil, passing the vitreous humor, and finally striking the retina.
For a clear picture to form, that light must travel undisturbed—but underwater, refraction curves the light, preventing the retina from receiving a crisp image. This is why everything looks blurred beneath the surface.
Haven’t we all known since elementary school that light alters its path when moving between materials with different densities?
