Chronicles of the Lazy Sovereign Novel - Chapter 31
Chapter 31
Wei Yan-ho’s Go stone landed abruptly on the board.
Wrinkles formed on the old man’s forehead.
I had heard rumors, but this was really a style that made the head move unintentionally.
“A very explosive style.”
Even playing Go in the middle of the battlefield would not achieve such a game.
It wasn’t just about having an impatient personality or not. If having an impatient personality could produce such a Go, then one would have to draw a sword every time someone rubbed his sleeve on the street to be considered normal.
But the man sitting in front of him, with arrogant expression, certainly did not seem to possess such a violent temperament.
So, in the first place, he was surprised that his impression changed so dramatically the moment he sat in front of Go’s board, and in the second place, he was surprised that an even more intense style was emerging than that impression.
‘What kind of life has this child lived?’
The more he looked, the more incomprehensible the man became.
“You’re not going to play?”
Wei Yan-ho, with his arrogant expression, opened his mouth.
“Mmm…”
The old man left the stone.
“Oh, you’re not going to play, aren’t you going to ask for it back?”
“There’s no need for that.”
The old man asked Moon Yu-hwan to bring tea and silently looked at the board. On it, razed by a storm, Go’s stones were scattered here and there in disorder.
It seemed as if the newbies who didn’t even know what Go was simply put stones at random.
“This doesn’t fit.”
Neither the explosive appearance he displayed on the board nor the lazy behavior he usually displayed were the image of the talent he desired.
The old man took a sip of tea to calm his mind.
He needed to do some more research.
“You said you were practicing cultivation, right?”
Wei Yan-ho shook his head.
“No, I’m not.”
“Didn’t you say you came to the Academic World to fulfill your master’s last wishes?”
“That’s right.”
“…”
The old man’s eyes trembled.
“But you say that’s not cultivation?”
“I do it because they tell me, but it’s not cultivation, you know?”
The old man coughed empty.
It was hard to say that his way of speaking was particularly bad, but strangely it was a tone that made the person who talked to him feel irritated.
“Well, then, can you tell me what kind of person your teacher was?”
“My teacher?”
Wei Yan-ho fell into contemplation.
How the hell could I explain it?
For Wei Yan-ho, Baek Mu-han was probably the most difficult person to explain. For other people it would not be different, but for Wei Yan-ho, it was a really difficult task.
After thinking for a moment, Wei Yan-ho found the most perfect word he could use to describe it.
“He’s a con man.”
The old man’s body shuddered sharply.
He almost joyfully sprayed the tea he held in his mouth on Wei Yan-ho’s face.
“A con man?”
Wei Yan-ho nodded calmly.
“He says he’s not, but look at him, he’s a con man.”
“Are you saying that your master is a con man?”
Wei Yan-ho nodded without hesitation.
That’s what I’m saying, when I think of the time I lost being fooled by that man…
Wei Yan-ho seemed as if he would burst into tears of indignation at any moment.
The old man let a deep sigh escape.
If the teacher was a scammer, where could one use someone who learned from a scammer?, and if the teacher was not a scammer, where should one use someone who calls his master scammer?
“…So what did you learn from your teacher?”
Wei Yan-ho blinked without understanding and responded.
“What did I learn?”
– Well, must you have learned something?
“Ah!”
Wei Yan-ho nodded.
“That would be… how not to be beaten, how to be beaten less, how not to be beaten while being beaten once again, how not to be beaten but to be beaten to death, and so on.”
The old man let go of an empty laugh.
‘He was a martial artist?’
But Wei Yan-ho’s appearance was nothing like that of a martial artist.
Not only the outstanding martial artists of the imperial court, but even the novices who had just become military officers had impressive sharp and physical looks without exception.
While martial officers who had reached a certain level knew how to contain such a presence, waiting for such a level of Wei Yan-ho, who seemed to have just passed the age of majority, would be excessive expectations.
The old man nodded.
– I understand. Now go.
Wei Yan-ho looked at Moon Eun-ji.
The old man responded with an irritated voice.
“You don’t need to play Go anymore, so rest.”
Only then did Wei Yan-ho show a silly smile on his face and come out happily.
The old man’s deep sigh filled the room.
Moon Yu-hwan looked at the old man with a somewhat worried expression.
Aren’t you happy with him?
“Are you asking me if I’m not happy?”
“…”
The old man shook his head.
It was a waste of time. I don’t understand at all why you value that person so much.
Moon Yu-hwan smiled softly.
Though he should be ashamed of the reproach of the old man, Moon Yu-hwan seemed completely carefree.
“What appears on the surface is not everything.”
“It could be even worse than it seems.”
Great Teacher, how could you doubt the gaze of the Great Teacher who has watched countless people for much longer than I have? But that person certainly possesses something that we do not know.
The old man snapped his tongue.
“Tsk tsk, you really are…”
The old man’s anger calmed a little before Moon Yu-hwan’s affable smile.
“Why do you value that person so highly?”
“Because I saw it.”
“Did you see it?”
Moon Yu-hwan nodded slowly.
During the great game, there was a time when I made a divine play. Even I thought it was an excellent play.
“Mmm…”
The old man nodded with strength. Moon Yu-hwan was praised by the world as a masterful player. The word “divine play” coming out of his lips meant it was a really excellent play. It must have been a perfect move that could decide the course of the game in one stroke.
“And then?”
Thinking that the great game was over, I looked away from the board and looked the other way. And then, I could see it. The face of that person looking at the board had a completely different expression than the previous one.
Moon Yu-hwan looked into the void as if he was lost in his thoughts.
That face is not easy to see. It was the face of altruism that someone completely absorbed in writing and absorbed to the extreme hardly showed from time to time. How could anyone be common who shows that expression while playing Go?
But the old man was still negative.
“Didn’t you see it wrong?”
Moon Yu-hwan shook his head firmly.
“I couldn’t have seen it wrong.”
“Mmm.”
Moon Yu-hwan continued with a serious expression.
Whether it’s literature or anything else, learning is always the same. Countless people face it, but those who manage to continue learning without giving up to the end are scarce in this world. Whatever you have learned, if you easily overcome the limit of altruism at such an early age after continuing that learning… it cannot be a common being.
It was a statement full of conviction.
Normally, the old man would have nodded without thinking twice.
Moon Yu-hwan’s words were true, and finding someone Moon Yu-hwan appreciated so much was an extremely difficult task.
But the old man turned his head in disgusted expression.
“Bah.”
The words were absolutely correct, but how could such words come out after seeing such a pathetic view?
Moon Yu-hwan’s words were correct, but the person to whom those words were referring was definitely not a proper human being.
“However, I have no intention of using that person.”
“Is that so?”
Moon Yu-hwan snapped his tongue like he was disappointed.
The old man sighed deeply.
No, since I could see you like this, I can’t say it was a waste of time.
“Are you so busy?”
Didn’t I tell you? Mm-hmm. The mood in the imperial court is no good.
Moon Yu-hwan was reluctant, but had no choice but to respect the old man’s wishes.
Frankly speaking, what could I say when I wasn’t giving any help to the imperial court?
“I understand.”
The old man looked out the window with a somewhat empty expression.
“It’s unfortunate.”
He had come to look for talent, but finding out that what he thought could be a phoenix was actually a chicken, his sense of emptiness was indescribable.
“Where did he go?”
Moon Eun-ji looked around her repeatedly with a face full of anger.
But Wei Yan-ho did not appear in the room. She seemed quite upset with the previous conversation with the old man.
In fact, after making such rude comments while talking to an old man who clearly seemed to have a high status, Moon Eun-ji’s mood could not be good.
She could not act hastily in front of her father and the old man, but the story was different when they were alone.
Besides, had Moon Yu-hwan not felt ashamed because of Wei Yan-ho?
“I’ll catch this guy!”
Bang!
The door slammed shut again.
Then Wei Yan-ho popped his head from under the bed.
“He left?”
A triumphant smile flourished on Wei Yan-ho’s face.
“I knew this would happen.”
It was a good decision to trust the sinister premonition that would run his back. If he had been lying in bed without thinking, he would definitely not have had a pleasant experience.
“But why does that woman behave like that with me?”
Wei Yan-ho snapped his tongue.
What good would a woman with such a personality do?
Of course, Wei Yan-ho did not consider at all the emotions that people around him might feel when looking at him.
“In any case…”
Underneath the bed was more comfortable than expected.
The dark and dark space was perfect for sleeping in broad daylight, and as it was out of sight of others, it could rest comfortably. The cold rising from the ground was a problem, but for Wei Yan-ho, that level of cold was no problem at all.
Wei Yan-ho stretched lazily and hugged the blanket.
“See you tomorrow…”
Wei Yan-ho closed her eyes with a pleasant smile. “It has been a long time since she could afford laziness.
The night came.
A deep silence enveloped the estate, plunged into darkness. The lights of the rooms of those who had been reading until dawn also went out one by one, and the reading sounds that were leaking gradually went out.
At a time when everyone slept to receive lessons and study from dawn.
There were those who moved stealthily.
“We’re ready.”
Those who wore black pajamas whispered reports to someone who was corpulent, and the man nodded and opened his mouth.
“Submit all of you quickly.”
“Yes!”
As soon as those words came to an end, dozens of night loiters jumped over the walls towards the estate.
The heavy man smiled and walked slowly toward the front door.
Creeeak!
The unlocked door opened, making a squeaky noise.
The man looked quietly at the estate.
“You should have listened to me.”
Nok Mok-pung smiled triumphantly and enjoyed the fuss that was unfolding on the estate.
“Who are you!”
“Ahhhhh!”
Bandits!
Rough noises were heard everywhere.
Nok Mok-pung closed his eyes as if he were listening to music and hummed a cheerful melody.
“Hmm, what a beautiful sound.”
A barely visible smile, buried in the flesh, formed on his voluminous lips.
